Château Margaux is a Bordeaux wine estate in France with a history that dates back almost 1,000 years. The estate's origins can be traced back to the 12th century when it was a medieval fortress, and it was originally known as La Mothe de Margaux, which translates to "The Mound of Margaux". Over the centuries, the estate has been owned by various noble families and developed into a castle. The Lestonnac family managed the estate from 1572 to 1582, and the d'Auledes family further developed the vineyards in the 1600s. In 1787, Thomas Jefferson, who was then the Minister to France, praised Château Margaux as one of his top Bordeaux picks and ordered a bottle, writing that it was "couldn't be a better Bordeaux bottle". In 1855, Emperor Napoleon III promoted the estate at the Second Universal Exhibition in Paris, and it became one of only four wines to be designated as Premier Cru in the Bordeaux Classification.
In 2003, Corinne Mentzelopoulos became the sole shareholder of Château Margaux, and in 2023, she passed the reins to her children, Alexis and Alexandra, who became the CEO and President of the Supervisory Board, respectively.
